Rogue428, PURGATUS and Rorschach! Rogue428 sent me a PM a couple days ago about doing a LOTR event for the upcoming Tacticon. I had a numbered ideas of how we could improve upon the awesome experience that we had a GhenghisCon and thought I'd reiterate them here so we could start brainstorming:
Funny you should mention this. Tim McKnight, the owner of Collectormania who won the LOTR tourney @GhenghisCOn '09, and I were just talking about this yesterday.Originally Posted by Rogue428
I say we definitely run a LOTR event. If you reserve the space, I'll definitely help with the organization, i.e. Rules, Scenarios, Score Cards, Prize Support.
I say we take it to the next level this time. Let's run 3 rounds, 2.5 hours each.
*Note* Rogue428, I think in my PM to you I mentioned 4 rounds, but I don't think this is possible. Most of the tourneys are running 2.5 hour rounds to help ensure completion of the games, as players tend to get disgruntled when a match gets decided by Victory Points. So 3 rounds, 2.5 hours a piece is good. If we want to attempt more (5-6) then it would have to be a 2 day event.
Armies have to meet Legions Of Middle Earth requirements, and players will have to submit their lists prior to the tourney so they can be verified (I'll do this). Also lets have a painting standard, the usual "All models must be painted and based, with three color minimum. Moreover, one must have painted their own army to be eligible for Overall Winner." Depending upon the prize support we can muster, let's increase the number of prizes available to maybe 4: Best Overall, Best General (best battle score), Best Sportsman, and Best Army(a combination of players votes as well as points scored based upon judges criterion).
I'll also put together a score card that is LOTR specific, and includes painting and sportmanship scores.
So, again, yes let's do this! And do it well. I'll likely spread the word nationally and see if I can get some of the "Ringers" to attend (pun intended).
Very excited, I am!
