(Disclaimer... I in NO WAY speak for the store...).

If the merest dalliance with the idea that maybe lists of 30 Ork Nob Bikerz are a Bad Idea sends some scurrying for the exits, then I got two words for them... but I can't say it here.

And I will further point out a few facts:
-- Nothing has been set out/decided for the next 40K Tourney event yet, so don't anyone get their knickers in a bunch.
-- To quote another gamer in another context, "After years of success, surely this will fail..."
-- ArdBoyz comes once a year now, so you'll still be allowed to be a dick at least then.
-- If you get that upset over something like a game of toy soldiers, you will surely never get laid.

I've never seen Ed get that upset at a wargame. Now the day he loses at BSG, watch out...

After being deathly ill the last few days (fecking flu), and having time to ponder what we're trying to do for who and why, I've come to the stance Dale has:
    1) If just discussing the idea of Comp sends certain players for the doors, then so be it. Admittedly, most of the players that had been asking for something like this are in the majority of "fringers," those that don't frequent the Haven more than the odd RTT, strangely enough like the hardcore tournament junta. So, why the frell are Dale and I wracking our brains and earning this hubris for an extremely small percentage of players instead of focusing on the needs and fun of the Havenites (def: players who consistently, frequently and unabashedly participate in activities at the Gamers Haven on an almost weekly basis)?
    2) The same point made for those that think neutering an abusive list: it's a glass door, don't let it hit you on the way out lest it break...

I'm now more inclined to please most of the people most of the time, since pleasing some of the people all of the time is just plain aggrevating. Seriously. And I'm fed up with people justisfying clear intent to abuse a loophole for a win. "It doesn't say I can't" is childish, schoolyard crap. It doesn't say you CAN, either. It's fecking toys, people, it doesn't earn you $$$, you are only known to a select geeky community, and yeah, I can see it impressing the opposite sex a whole lot .

Ponder this: GTs and Indies pull, what, 300 players usually? So with say 8 such events per year that's about 2400 players. But Games Workshop is an international, MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR company, one that can not sustained by merely 2400 hardcore players. So, by reasoning that means there's a helluva lot more casual, fun, BALANCED players than hardcore.

So, with that, and further input from noted sources, I think we should take a different tact. Composition will be sidelined for a bit, mostly because as has been pointed out: the Havenites really don't need it, they police their own. More fun events, more large-scale events that involve everyone, is what's needed. Like Rich's GvE event, or JP's 40k in 40 Minutes. Hell, I think Dale should run another Last Man Standing event! We need leagues, we need campaigns, we need the overly large player base we've already got doing more together. Then we'll see more fun at the actual tournaments.

If this drives some people away, speaking for myself I say "Hasta la vista." In the end, some might be missed, but since it will more than likely be the once-in-a-long-while crowd that goes on their merry, I really can't say anyone will notice (?).

Dale/Rob, can we lock this thread, and the WFB one, por favor?

Hah we need more massive apoc battles. With a story line. And battles affecting other battles. You can even build of regular events like the good vs evil! Say if evil wins all evil players get an extra type of apoc asset. Etc etc etc. Maybe do the battle over an airfield and whoever wins gets extra air strikes. Resource areas allow whichever side (or even just the faction that won) an extra point value to bring that can only arrive after a certain number of turns.

Now you're seeing it, the bigger picture we should'v been worrying about.

Yes, there's going to be long events, events that tie to other events, qualifiers for specific events, hobby events, clinics, paint-a-thons, kitbashing/conversion events... tons of things to appeal to everyones' facet of GW games. There'll be enoguh for anyone, and sometimes it'll pay to participate in more of the hobby events.

We'll still have RTTs, and the traditional (read: GW approved) scoring methods will remain the standard (thus no comp), and there'll be a shake-up of prize packets and such to keep things fresh. The RTTs will maintain the current competetive nature, while hobby events will be for the fun of the game. After all, that's what this is: a game against friends with plastic toys soldiers using make believe.

So keep your eyes out for posters at the store, there's going to be a lot of them in the coming months. You'll want to be around a whole lot more often...
