With the release of 6th Edition, old rules were changed and new rules added to Warhammer 40,000. One of the most intriguing rules brought into play are "Allied Detachments." And what better way to work on a small force of models you may have wanted to build, but not commit to an entirely new army, than picking up a Battleforce and adding them as allies to our existing army (armies)?
The Gamer's Haven and Mentor Legion Gaming Club presents:
The 40K Battleforce Skirmish and Ceramite Painter CHALLENGE!
Basic Rules -
Runs August 15th through September 15th.
Sign-up sheet will be posted in the hallway.
Entry/support cost is $5, entirely to supply prize support and/or awards.
Report sheets will be provided.
Battleforce Skirmish Army Rules -
+ 1000 points;
+ must follow the ALLIED DETACHMENT Force Organization Chart on p.109 of the BRB (Big Rulebook), meaning:
> 1 mandatory HQ
> 1 mandatory Troop selection
> up to one additional Troop selection
> up to one each of Elite, Fast Attack and/or Heavy Support selections
> NO Fortifications!;
+ must consist of a new Battleforce (see here for those the Haven has or can get for you: http://search.games-workshop.com/sea...s_per_page-100) and any additional units purchased to fill the Allied Detachment FOC;
+ all battleforce boxes and units must be newly purchased, no reworks or borrowed/loaned; this means KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS!
+ must be WYSIWYG... remember, weapons rules are now dictated by the MODEL, not just Army List entry (eg: power weapons modeled as power axes...)
Rules of Engagement -
Play ANYONE in the Challenge, at ANY TIME, for ANY NUMBER of games!!!
Scenarios are to be decided in a mutually agreeable method, using the rules on p.118-131. (And as the MLGC and Gamer's Haven do prefer to encourage Great Sportsmanship, it is suggested that the Challenger allow the Challenged to roll for both the Mission and Deployment Map, as well as deciding what deployment zone they would prefer; then roll for who deploys first and Seizing the Intiative as normal)
Scoring -
> Played a Battleforce Skirmish = 1 point
> Won a Battleforce Skirmish = +1 point
Ceramite Painter Rules -
In addition to the plethora of skirmishes your force will face, it will need to be FULLY PAINTED by the end of the Challenge! That's 31 days of painting, and to a high level. Do you think you can handle the heat?
Your Battleforce will be judged at the end of the Challenge, based on the criteria below.
PAINTING CRITERIA CLARIFIED:
3 POINTS - Painted at least 3 colors (NOT including primer!);
+3 POINTS - Use of one level of shading and highlighting (a basic wash and edge highlighting, something anyone can learn thanks to GW's articles and gradiated paints and washes);
+4 POINTS - Use of progressive shading and blended highlights (think 'Eavy Metal and Golden Demon competitors here);
2 POINTS - Basing/flocking (even if just bare sand or grass flock -OR- purchased premade resin/cast bases);
+3 POINTS - Use of multiple basing techniques (sand, flock decorative bits and/or premade resin/cast bases);
3 POINTS - Consistency across the force (easy enough, all the models should have the same theme, unless dictated otherwise by the army/unit {ie: Death Company, Harlequins, Aspect Warriors, Ork Klans, etc.});
+3 POINTS - Focal points stand out but still maintain cohesion with the army theme (again, simple as a golden armored Dante or Tycho, a Farseer in the Craftworld's charge color robes, a Chaos Lord with a reversed color-scheme of the army colors, etc.);
2 POINTS - Unit markings or indicators (as simple as numbers or colors on some part of the squad, differing from other squads);
+4 POINTS - Handpainted details (litany markings, freehand scrolling or banners, Chapter icons, facepaint or tattoos);
+3 POINTS - Conversion work beyond basic kit swaps (across-kit or -game swaps, not just a few Space Wolf heads on your Chaos Marines, but things like Dark Elf Corsair drake cloaks on Eldar Exodite Guardians, or Dark Angel robed torsos and legs on Warriors of Chaos Chosen of Tzeentch).
Awards a maximum of 30 POINTS.
