What are your thoughts on the newer green site style? Do you find it more welcoming then the white and blue one we used to have?
Have you checked out the new Wings of War style? How do you like it?

I like it not so much scrolling and quick loading.
The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.

What do you mean by not so much scrolling?
"Guns don't kill people, the Government does."
when I got to this site before hand I had to scroll a bit more to look at recent posts on the bottom. Not saying scrolling is a bad thing but scrolling to see the entire content on the first page isn't considered by many as good web page designe. Though it's happening so oftan now that it's a fairly mute point.

I think you will find that issue fixed on the front page now. I've made quite a few changes to the portal layout in the last day or two. You can also click on the New Posts link just under your avatar image/user name on the portal to have a new page load of only the new posts since your last visit.
Another useful tool if you can only check the forums once a day, is the Quick Links at the top center of every page. It's a drop down menu that will allow you to select Today's Post. Again a new page will open up showing only the posts made today.

The porthole page is starting to look sensational! The event boxes, demo picture, game reviews, also featuring pics--really get you into the site. It's like being a customer walking into the store. And then you go to the forum and hear the conversation you would in the store. It's informative, inviting, and a much more effective tool for possibly building some traffic. Clearly, you've ben putting a lot of work into it. Nice work!
Employment Counselor: So what are your interests outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to do a little gaming, wargames, role-playing games.
EC: <cold stare> My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

Thanks Stu. I have been putting a lot of work into it. I'm by no means a coder, so it takes a lot of trail and error on my part to work out what I want done. Those little surrounding images for each box took me well over a month to get done. I'm still making some tweaks and changes to it. I don't think I'll ever be done really. That is why I am always seeking everyone's advice.
The whole goal of the portal/home page is to be informative and inviting to people coming to the site for the first time. The trick is to keeping it "good" for the established and hardcore gamers we have.
One thing I don't think I've accomplished yet is, making it obvious to someone new that there is a forums for them to sign up on and join the community.

I'm getting more used to it as well. Still trying to find things.
