Does anyone play or is any interested in playing Saganami Island Tactical Simulator (Space Combat in David Weber's Honor Harrington universe) by Ad Astra games?

I have not played it, but I would be interested. I have read several of the Honor books. I am finishing up "The Shiva Option" now. Though I think I would be more interested in the Federation commander game.

I would love to watch/try it out as well.

I'd be interested. Loved the books and the technology he used.

David - For Federation Commander I currently have the game and can run an intro game most anytime. My conflicts this week would be on Fri evening and Sat evening (Sat/Sun day are open as is the earlier part of the week). Later in the month would work equally well for me if you don't have time this week. If you are interested, let me know what a good day/time is and we can plan on meeting at the Haven.

"The Shiva Option" is a good book. In that Genre (~4 books), I liked "Insurretion" the best. "Path of the Fury" is also an excellent book (Different Genre). There was a very enjoyable older boardgame called "Starfire" based on "Shiva Option"/"Crusade"/"Insurrection"/can't remember the name of the 4th book. I can bring this down as well if you are interested in looking at it. The system included a campaign game with empire building that was very enjoyable.

All - I ordered Saganami Island Tactical Simulater on Saturday, so it will likely be a week or so before it arrives. Once it arrives, I will post and set up a game at the Haven. Possibly two weeks from now depending on how quickly they process and ship. Based on what I have read on the games forums and the reviews, it sounds like they have captured the flavor of the combat seen in the books.

I think the 4th book was "In Death Ground". I like his new series "Off Armageddon Reef" and "In Schism Rent Asunder" (series ongoins) which is a mixed genre that I think will ultimately move entirely into sci-fi.

Looking forward to a game (though I have some work travel coming up). If they captured the combat feel of the Honor series, then it should be good fun.

Garaz, yes "in death ground" was to book before "shiva option". That would be interesting to fight with all those races. The "bugs" would be quite the relentless foe.

Paul, this week is out. I am free anytime after the Holiday (monday MLK day).
so, some time next week would be great. for a weekday, I can get to the shop by 5:00pm. I am flexable on the weekends too.

For federation commander, I am on the verge of ordering some stuff for that. I am not sure what boosters I should get, Kingon, Romulen, or Federation. What faction do you have? I can get the opposite for game play.

All - FYI - I forgot that Steve White and Shirley Meyer have writen another book in the same Series called Exodus (Weber was not involved). It is an acceptable story, but it lacks some of the zest/action that Weber brings to his books. My thought would be to look for it in a library or possibly as a used book if you want to read it.

David - The week of MLK, I am free on Tues any time, Sat Day until about 430PM, Sun anytime. Let me know what day and time works for you and we will meet at the Haven. I currently have all three races that you mention. My thought would be to order what you feel like playing or play a few games first to see which empire you like and then order the items for that empire. I don't mind using my stuff until you decide if you want to jump into the system.

All - I have a boardgame called starfire that simulates space combat in the "In Deaths Ground"/"The Shiva Option"/"Crusade"/"Insurrection" genre. I can bring this down to the Haven if there is interest in playing it. It could easily be adapted where minitatures replace the cardboard counters.

Hey Paul,

I am always done to try out a space combat game. Let me know when you'll be at the Haven and I'll do my best to be there.

All,

Sorry for the hiatus on this.

In reference to Saganami Island Tactical Simulator, they have miniatures for it out, but do not currently have all the adapters out to reflect the orientaion of the ships. As such I have been holding off waiting for them to get the adapters out. Once they get the adapters out, I will let people know.
