NOTE DATE CHANGE
All...here's the details for what I hope becomes a big October event. Please let me know your thoughts, interest level, questions, and any problems you might foresee with the can reroll system... :-)
I'll be putting up a flyer soon, but PASS THE WORD!

FOODHAMMER

Saturday, Oct 18th, 2008 -- 10:30AM
A Charity Tournament to benefit the Marian House Soup Kitchen
(http://www.ccharitiescs.org/page.asp?id=38&name=Soup%20Kitchen )

Tourney Rules
2000pt Armies, Special Characters Allowed
3 Rounds Swiss

Usual RT Prizes, plus I’m working on something special for the Biggest Donor Prize.
Entry Donation: 10 canned goods.
Further canned goods may be donated to buy “in game” Rerolls (see Below).
All donations will be counted at the start of the event, and “tickets” given out for each can donated. These can be spent in-game for a variety of effects.

1 Can per Die:
• Reroll a Single set/throw of To Hit Rolls, or To Wound Rolls, or Saves for a unit (incl Champions).
• Reroll a Casting Roll. Miscasts cannot be rerolled this way (see below).

2 Can per Die:
• Reroll a Single set/throw of To Hit Rolls, or To Wound Rolls, or Saves for a Character Model or Monster.
• Reroll a Dispel Roll. Auto-Fail Dispels cannot be rerolled this way.
• Reroll “Partials” to see if models are hit by a Template or Spell on a 4+ or higher.

5 Cans:
• Reroll your own Flee or Pursuit Roll. Every subsequent time in the same player-turn this is attempted, the cost is doubled EACH time. (i.e. 10 Cans, 15 cans, 30 cans etc).
• Reroll a Scatter Die and/or distance dice. This can apply to forced movement as well.
• Reroll an Artillery Die.
• Reroll a single Chariot’s number of Impact Hits.
• Reroll dice that indicates the number of multiple wounds taken.
• Reroll a Miscast or Auto-Fail Dispel (reroll ALL dice rolled)
• Reroll a Strength, Toughness, or Initiative Test. Multiples for a unit can be taken at 5 cans per die.

10 Cans:
• Reroll any of your own Leadership Tests (whether Psychology or Break Test).
• Reroll your own Set-Up Roll, or who goes first Roll. Once per player.
• Reroll the 4+ Die to see if a judgement call (rules or measuring, etc) goes your way or not.
• Reroll ANY other roll not specified above (Giant’s Attack Choice, Skaven Bell, etc).

General Can Reroll Rules:
• Using Cans to Reroll a Reroll IS Allowed. Subsequent reroll throws must pay the surcharge as listed below.
• Where the cost is “per die” the player picks only and exactly what dice will be rerolled in a single throw. ONLY these type of rerolls can be used to reroll your own dice OR you Opponent’s – others can only reroll YOUR dice.
• Where the cost is “flat”, all dice from the original throw are rerolled.
• Every subsequent time in the same player-turn the same TYPE of reroll is attempted (i.e. per each bulleted item above) in the same Player Turn, the cost is doubled EACH time. I.E>
o 1 Can to 2 Cans, 4 cans, 8 cans etc
o 5 to 10 to 20 to 40
• These reroll buys must be used AFTER all rerolls from ANY Game effects have been used.

Guidelines on Canned Goods:
• Within every 10 cans you donate, please do not have more than 3 cans of the same thing. So do not show up with 100 cans of cream corn that cost you 25 cents each.  Protein canned goods are especially needed.
• Please bring extra boxes if you have them, so it’s easier for us to collect and deliver the cans.
• We will also take donations for blankets, coats, and trial sized personal items like lotion, shampoo, deodorant, and toothbrushes. (Rough “can equivalent” tickets will be given out for these.

PRIZES
Standard RTT Prizes (Battalion Box, Unit Box, Blister Packs, etc)
For the individual with the Greatest Donations, the prize will be a modest Dogs of War Army. DoW are no longer Gamesday-legal, but will remain so at local events.
The army consist of:

“Vlad” Style Mercenary General on Steed (in blister)
“Lucretia” Wizard Lord on Steed (fully painted)
Bologs and Cachtorr, The Giants of Albion, with Hengus the Druid.
Bronzino’s Galloper Gun (fully painted)
Ricco’s Republican Guard (fully painted, between 20 and 24 models)
Voland’s Venators Box Set (4 Knights plus Voland)
5 Old Skool Ogres (suitable to use as Golgfag’s Ogres).

Oooohhh... my head hurts with the math involved! So, does that mean I can reroll a reroll of a reroll of a reroll of a reroll of a rerolled single character save (thus paying out... 64 cans)?

Sounds fun, though!

Yes! And having played the Warmachine version of this format, I can tell you that spending cans gets addictive!

And if anyone's wondering "Why Marian House?" -- Between the economy and the season, donations and food-stocks are at an all time low, while demand is ever-increasing for food assistance. People are belt tightening, and its not the holidays so they don't think of giving, and unemployment is on the rise... families with kids even rely on this meal assistance, not just hobos and stoners. ;)

I will probably be able to play. If there is a sign up sheet could my name be added to it?

Dale, Can I use a case of canned food to raise my painting score from "0" to lets say "12"?

Dale, Can I use a case of canned food to raise my painting score from "0" to lets say "12"?

Not quite :-)

I had considered how to do that, but there's no easy formula... perhaps if you stacked enough cans to completely cover your army, I could give a perfect score...

eldanesh69
08-22-2008, 03:06 PM
Hmmmm.......how should I stack those cans? I am willing to try your suggestion. What about a paint score of 10? I don't want perfect, just a medium score.

Rorschach
08-22-2008, 04:09 PM
Allright...in the spirit of the thing, let's say every 5 Cans adds 1 to your Appearance score (because its such a wonderful sight), up to a maximum of 12 pts. If your army is already above 12 pts, cans don't help.

So to go from 0 to 12pts, that would be a 10x6 stack. :-)

No cans can buy up your Sportsmanship, unless you want to bribe your opponent with your can tickets...

Same.

I probably wont be up there for a good while, so as usual, if someone could have my name added to the sign up list, when it is posted, I would greatly appreciate it. :)

WOW!!
Dale you rock!! That is the neatest idea I have heard of in a long time and sounds like it would be a blast. I'll pass the info onto the boys as I am stuck here in the land of sand and sun until early next year. Could I attempt to win the greatest donation prize even though I will not be there in the flesh?
DoW army...Hmmm would work very nicely.Think it will become a annual event?

Think it will become a annual event?

I'll try...late summer early fall is always a rough donation time for the food shelters.

You can win by proxy if your boys can enter :-)

Hi Juergen - I just saw your post.

Starting late is a bit tricky - it works great if we have an odd number at the start. If not, I just jump in with the house army. It will tank your scores likely, but we'd welcome the donations!

I am sorry to say that I must withdraw from the tournament. The 18th is parents weekend in Boulder and I just found out that I have a ticket to the CU football game against Kansas, so no Warhammer for me. If you had added me to the sign up sheet could you please take me off. Thanks,

I'll have some High Elves as the House Army, and you'll get my first round's score... I've only used the Army once, so that's probably fair :-)
If we have even numbers without you, I'll still count it as a flat Bye as if you'd been there.

Thanks to Dale and Gamer's Haven for running and sponsoring the tourney. Had a lot of fun. Great opponents. I will have my fill of Dwarf flesh next time. I should have saved my tickets from paint score to use to reroll all my failed rerolls from my game against Ted. Thanks again Mike T
