Napar,
Join the Club... I'm pretty much like you. I have:
-the starter of Sebeki (all painted except the MoW & Human Priest) plus bitz
-the starter of Basti (mostly painted except MoW) plus bitz
-Asar Spearmen & Swordsmen
-A large number of African spearmen I could use as proxy (gotta love them Masai)

Have you had any luck getting any games in or learning to play?
Stephan

Forrest and I will be at the store for a game of Wargods on Wed if you want to stop by. I'll have to check with Forrest, but I don't think he'd have a problem making it a teaching game. If any of your stuff is assembled, bring it along and we'll see if we can't throw some of your units into our game.

I'm playing a Wargods game on Wednesday (Heru vs Tethru) If either of you guys want to come up and watch, I'll be happy to explain the rules and the mechanics as we go through the game. Or if both of you want to bring your figs up, you can play each other while we play and we'll coach you through it. Let me know.
Forrest
Well I see that Stephan posted before I did.Bring your figs and we'll work it out. Come on up about 6:00

Not a problem, I don't want to mess up your guys planned game time.
I'll try it again some other time or if I can get together with jpchapleau, we can try out a game with our starters and work our way through the book.
Thanks again guys.

You guys won't mess up anything. Bring your Wargods stuff if you can make it up on Wednesday. We'll either blend you into our game or put you on the table next to us and walk you throught your game. Works either way!

What army do you play?
jpchapleau
04-11-2007, 11:38 AM
I have starter armies of Sebeki & Basti but I have a buttload of Historical africans (Masai, Zulus, Ngori) I'm planning on using as additional units.
ColGreeley
04-11-2007, 11:43 AM
Ooooh, Zulus? Cool. Always good for a re-enactment of Roarke's Drift.
jpchapleau
04-11-2007, 11:58 AM
I don't have enough of them to do a nice R'sD. :S Most of my tribesmen are central-african (I used to play TS&TF in the Congo/Kenya area more than south Africa)
However, except for the highly-recognizable Masai (great feathered headdress & distinctive shield pattern), the "Generic" ones could sub in for Zulus...
JP
ColGreeley
04-11-2007, 12:10 PM
That would work. I played Roarke's Drift up at Genghis Con a few years back using the SOWRD and the FLAME Rules. I did quite good if I don't say so myself. I repelled 5 waves of Zulus.
jpchapleau
04-11-2007, 12:15 PM
TS&TF (The Sword and the Flame) is a good system for cons. Ran a game of its little brother: The Sword in Africa (aimed towards smaller battles) at Wolfhound 2001 in Dublin and it was pretty cool (if a little out there for the historically-minded crowd.
Back on topic, I think they look very good and add some spice/exotism to WoA (as if croc-men & mummies werent' enough) (from the games I played with my wife to try the game)

David, Mark and Stephan
See you guys tonight at 6ish. I will get two tables for our game to accomodate the size of our game.
2000 pts each and a level 4 Harbinger (not included in th e 2000 pts.
David, I only have 1 chariot assembled. I will bring the one I have, plus my extra Anubi.

04-18-2007, 07:43 AM
Forrest, I forgot to tell Rob to hold 2 tables for you. Sorry. If you want, you can call him today and he should be able to accomodate. I will be watching this game, sounds like fun.

Please let me know when you'll be running the neext game or demo of Wargods as I want to get to very familiar with the game play as I am starting to put together my Spartans.
Any word yet on when the Olympus book will be released?

Kevin,
No word on the Olympus book yet. Once the Pharoh's Daughter's birthday is over, we'll set up a game. We've found that the Heru stats work well for the Spartans as proxy stats.

Living Ancestor,
There are now rules for the Spartans on the Wargods website. The entry there includes stats for the men, the leader and the phalnax formation. If you are planning another 300 game, it would let us fight Spartans instead of confused and plucked Heru.

05-18-2007, 11:38 AM
Thanks Jacob. I saw it the other day and distributed it to our potential Olympus players. They were very pleased with the phalanx rule (as they should be). What nights are working for you now to get a WGA game in?

Howdy All,
Well it seems that Father Nurgle has blessed me with the energy and enthusiasm to jump back into gaming with both feet. If anyone is interested in a game or demo of Wargods, let me know, and we'll work out a day and time.
Keith, let me know what day works for you and which army you are most interested in and we'll get together (Gee, just one more game for you to beat me up at). :D

Forrest:
Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have my Spartans even put together by tomorrrow, however, I did pick up some more Spartans at GenCon and got a look at the official playtest Spartans rulebook (much in the same fashion as the Hyporea / Wendigo book they have on the Crocodile Games website). By the way, Forrest, I ordered an additional copy for you while I was at GenCon (should arrive in about 2-3 weeks) and I have some Basti camp follower minis for your wife as well.

Forrest:
Would you happen to have an answer on how to properly rank up the Spartans together on their bases so that they rank up properly? Those 20mm bases seem too small once I get each hoplite on their base and then trying to figure out how to get their individual shields to fit properly without them knocking into the miniature right next to them! Am I missing something?
Thanks.
Respectfully,
KEVIN

08-27-2007, 10:42 AM
Kevin,
Unfortunately, no. The current trend in gaming figs is to make them larger and larger. Nothing, except historicals is 25mm anymore, and that's what 20mm bases were designed for. Your Spartans are probably 28 or 30mm. They would probably work best on a 25mm base, but that would mess with game mechanics.
I have had to set up my WFB Orks and Chaos Warriors like a jigsaw puzzle, fitting one into another in a ranked formation, and then number the bottoms of the bases. I think that since the Spartans are in a single, static pose, that won't work, but it can't hurt to try.
Sorry, not much help.

08-27-2007, 02:26 PM
Forrest:
Thanks for the advice. I was hoping that there might be some sort of workaround with my Spartans. Crocodile Games' hoplites come in only about 3 to 4 poses but they are only slightly different from each other (hand position, spear position, and head angle). Unfortunately, my biggest problem is evident in shield position.
I may just go ahead and glue them all on their bases and figure it all out from there using the "jigsaw puzzle" method you described earlier.
Thanks again, Forrest.
Respectfully,
KEVIN

Forrest:
Most definitely!
I managed to get a demo game of Wargods at the Crocodile Games booth at GenCon and I am really impressed with the simplicity and ease of game play. I'm hoping to get a few 20-man hoplite units together for my first game along with a Demigod to challenge your Harbinger in The Provocation!
It should be fun!

I am going to be picking up some character and special unit minis, but since I am not motivated to paint a whole bunch of Spartans again I'm going to use some historicals (these are Wargames Foundry) I already have.

Not sure when the atual book is to be released. Rob might have that information. There is a set of published playtest rules that were available at Gen Con. I believe that Rob and Kevin have a set.

Well, after our discussion last night, I am glad to see more people interested in playing this great game. It looks like Kevin is onboard and possibly Steve Glenn. Now I really need to dig out my Eaters of the Dead army and get them up and running. As for Olympus, I have some Spartans, but I think I will let Kevin play them as I am thinking of fielding the Mycenaeans. I just need to see what I can get for stuff from Croc Games and see what Rob can order.
