Hey everyone my name is Aaron but more people know me by my player's name Noliquin now so really any of them work if you meet me! I'm a WoW nerd to the extreme, but i'm looking to get out and off the computer! I'm in the army and I'm new to Colorado Springs (so far I love it here). I've always wanted to get in to a Miniature game but I've never had the time or money to spend on them. Well I do now and i'm really wanting to get into WHFB. So as my first post i was wondering if maybe i could get some advice on the best way to get started in this new game/hobby. I'm thinking "The Battle for Skull Pass" is a good start. No bad of a price and seems to be the "starter box" but i was wondering when everyone here plays as well? Maybe someone wants to give me a walk through on the game?!?!? :) Anyways, I hope to get to know all of you soon and have an army to battle... and well kick yall's butt with! ;)

Welcome Nol!
You've caught the locals "between campaigns", so there's not much regular WFB going on right now. That'll change as the holidays roll in, when folks are usually playing more for fun.
Wed nights are the usual play nights. Also some on Friday and Saturday.
I've been pondering starting a big campaign in 2008 using the new Mighty Empires for the strategic level, but I need to wait until my job calms down before I can plan that.
For starting out, yes the Skull Pass is a HUGE value, and will give you the basics of the game. I may be free for a Wednesday demo after the holiday, so ask me again then if no one else has obliged you. :-)
In my time, I've played Skaven, Orcs, Dark Elves, Chaos, Wood Elves, Vampire Counts, Empire, High Elves, Dwarves, and now Orcs again. So if you have any questions, please ask. :-)
Again, welcome!

I was shown how to play maybe 5 years ago? lol just hangin out in a store like this one and someone was bored... So I have a good idea on how it all works out and also on the kind of unit I want to play. But I still have alot of questions to maybe place me with the right units.
And its really fine really I'll need time to paint and get my army together so i think its best i caught yall when i did! :)
Again TY for the offer in helping me out! And anytime thats good for you should be fine with me!

Welcome, it's always good to know new players are around.
I understand the Lizards are a great army to start on as they are well balanced and are strong accross the board (Move, shoot, close combat, magic, etc.) so I think you've got a winner there. Not a lot of personal experiance with the lizards here, though.

welcome,
lizards are a great army to learn with. ive taught two people to play and their first armies were both lizardmen. David oue comes in on wed nights, he is currently building up a skaven army, but lizzies were his first one, so if you put a post he can meet you wed night and give you a tutorial. on the forum he is konaboy. also, big mike was playing lizardmen a while back, dont know if he is still or not. he also shows up on wed nights for warhammer nights, so either one of them or numerous other players can definitely help you out there.

Ahhh. A fellow soldier. At last. I was tired of being the only person at the store with short hair and/or no facial hair (kids not withstanding).
Welcome, Nol. Having fought against the Lizzies several times, I will say the following things about them:
1. Fear-causing cavalry. I hate them.
2. Strength 4, Toughness 4 basic troops. I hate them too.
3. The only race with better magic than my High Elves. I hate that, also.
4. Your chariot is a friggin dinosaur. Hate is too weak a word.
So there you have it. I'm sure the gaming terminology will make sense sometime soon. I'll throw down my elves with you when I get back from the desert. Peace out, brother.

Hi Noliquin
I'm Big Mike and I did play lizard for a while then I went to dwarves and then Tomb Kings, but they sit in a corner of my room always wanting to play so this wednesday me and David Oue the other lizardman player where going to have a "civil war" of sorts and I wouldn't mind showing you anything that you wanted to and im pretty sure that david wouldn't mind. So just come on by this coming wednesday around 6-6:30 and you can ask all the questions you want hey I will even let you play and I just give you advice here or there so you can learn and try all the units that you want.

I'd almost rather face a dinosaur than the kitty wagon.
Lizzies are a good army to start with( for all the reasons doomed mentioned plus skink darts of doom), though I am partial to dwarves. Their infantry is very tough, which can forgive some new play mistakes, and you don't need to worry about magic. They are on the slow side though, which can be trying for some players. Still picking an army that you like the look and fluff of is the most important thing and then you can play most armies with just about any style you want.

Hi Aaron,
Welcome. As Dale said, some of us that play fantasy are usually there on Wednesday nights. And as Jeff said, I am currently playing with skaven and started my first army with lizardmen. They are a great army to play, both as a new person to it as well as an experienced one. What I really like about the lizards, as most have mentioned, is the flexibilty the army list provides you. You can go heavy infantry (I think saurus are among the best core infantry in the game), you've got flying units, lots of magic (especially with a slann), tough units, shooters, it goes on. If you're free this wednesday (28 Nov), I'll probably be there looking for a game. If you are able to stop by we can talk lizards or you can watch a game to see how it goes.

You'll be pretty easy to pick out of the crowd, Nol. We're the only ones in the store who habitually shave. . .

Greetings!
I'm new to the Warhammer Fantasy myself, haven't even watched a game of it, but looking over the books it's different from 40k. I'll be soon to join the games on Wednesdays, I think I have enough Dark Elves completed to "get by". Been busy with moving, work, painting figures... and playing the odd game of 40k.
As for Skull Pass... it's a great deal, if you've any interest in either of the armies... otherwise, nae so much.
