View Full Version : super-cheesy APOC idea

So this list I dreamed up consists of 26 assaulty terminators and two thunderhawks at 3000 points. I bid one minute for setup, say "done", give the other guy first turn, and promptly avoid two turns of enemy shooting. Then I proceed to bring on on thunderhawk, nuke one enemy superheavy or titan, and drop 6-700 points of termies wherever I want. Turn three, bring on the second TH, wash rinse, repeat! I gain a one-shooting-phase advantage, get to shoot first and move last (not insignificant in a OBJ game without VPs), and get to deploy after the enemy has deployed AND moved twice, as well as getting all of my troops into assault un-shot-at. Deathwing FTW!

That sounds really cheesy but I don't know how well it would actually do. If the opponent is smart they would simply attempt to contest/take as many objectives as possible before your squads showed up and while 26 termies sounds impressive, if any of those squads get knocked down below half strength they don't count towards capturing objectives.
With all of that in mind, I wouldn't mind a game against an opponent with that set up. At the very least it would be fun to watch.

Im thinkin it would be perfect ! ... in the spirit of the game as well ... I mean .. you would be the insertion force .. against an entrenched force ... sweeet . Could also have another force as the "distraction" force ... hummmm the wheels are turning ........

I agree with Darmonevil, because there just isn't enough firepower and men in that army. But as an addition to a 6,000 point army or so, that would be very effective

Just spend half of my points in Eldar fighters and place them on CAP(I think thats the proper action)to shoot down the T-Hawks and the other half in jetbikes to fly around and take all the objectives each turn while using fortune and turboboost for invulnerable 3+ saves rerollable

Personally you would be chancing with your numbers. yes you do have the firepower but you only have 26 units on the board to beat a 3000 point army. i agree with above people, i would like to watch someone come to a Apoc. battle with only 26 people to score 6 loots. I would rather have as many numbers as i can to keep my opponent on his/her toes and think about what im going to do next and to be will rounded for anything that my opponent has. if i had 3000points i would challange your Apoc. termy list but im poor and need to buy food so i cant. lol
But this is just my 27 cents worth.

You could go even cheesier than Deathwing and take a bunch of Terminators with Lysander. Since he's got that Unified Reserves rule, you could drop a company's worth of terminators loaded up with assault cannons down in one go and just shoot the hell out of everything.

Does apocalypse give you the option to take second turn if you bid 0 minutes? I don't remember reading anything but that the lowest bid gets first turn, but maybe I overlooked something.

They don't get into it any deeper than that. If you WANT 2nd turn, just bid high!

yeah, i really dont like how you "choose" for who goes first... i would rather leave it up to the dice.

Yeah, cause in real battles, the Commanders get together and dice to see who starts...
This way is one of the best Strategic innovations in Apocalypse...the Commander who rushes his forces into position gets the initiative. But then the other Commander may have just planned on that!
It makes you think, and comes closest to the way a REAL battle starts than anything...in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes the 40K 5E default in some fashion.
