Upcoming Conventions

I guess there has been some controversy, and Ben Con decided to move back a little, rather than be on the same weekend as Opus Fest.

I know I've been overheard at the shop complaining bitterly that Genghis Con did not accept my rpg proposals this year and vowing untidy revenge. But that was just goofin' . . .
I still dig the con scene. But I'm not freakin' made out of money! I would like to propose games to some of the upcoming cons, and I would like to see what shows people were most most intersted in.

The cons listed all have gaming, even if they aren't specifically gaming cons.

I'm starting to lean more toward the non-DGA cons. They seem to be all about tournaments anymore, with little imagination or effort put into other kinds of events.

These are the local cons of which I am aware. If they're going to do anymore of those roman numeral cons, or if anything else is going on, let me know and I'll amend the list. I didn't count StarCons, because they don't have games. They seem like big flea markets.

Since I'm really only newly local, I don't have a preference yet, and to be honest I've been out of the con scene since the early 90's when I went to origins last.

I've considered getting back in, as I remember them being an ungodly amount of fun, but I narrowly missed a trip to Genghis this year (which I understand is a good thing).

Speaking of upcoming cons. The Troymeister and I have been kicking around the idea of a GenCon road trip. Rent a 12 passenger van, get 3 or 4 rooms, you know, make a spectacle of it. Thelma and Louise or Too Wong Fu would have nothing on us.

Thoughts? Volunteers?

That leads up to my birthday that year. It might be fun. It would be cool to watch the Hugo award given. And I bet the parties are awesome. I love high-octane geek parties.

I was checking out the 2006 WorldCon in LA. Holy Crap. There were whole tracks in the programming for Tom Corbett and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Old stars and prop people and all kinds of panels and fan stuff--that could've been the event to drive me right over the edge, snapping my admittedly tenuous grasp on reality and moving me onto Volcania for good. I can't believe I missed it!

GenCon is really what I would like to go to. I haven't been to any Cons to speak of but GenCon sounds like the one I'd start with.
