Hi all, i am thinking about a starting a Hordes army. i just got a few questions.

1 How like complicated/hard is it to play this army? I played 40k quite easily, and with very little difficult.
2 What time does the WHFB night (Wednesday right?) Start?
Thanks for all answers!:D

As far as armies go, a horde of chaos is one of the easier ones to start with. You have both a phenomenal stat line and mostly good armor. The down side is that you field fewer models, which if you are starting out isn't all bad as you chaos units are easier to get to the table than skaven and you have fewer units to worry about on the playing field. This means also that mistakes can be more costly than when playing a horde army like skaven or white tide vampire counts. Fantasy as a whole requires more finesse and strategy (charge arcs, flanks, less shooting, etc) than 40 K, but both of those things come with practice.

You are most welcome to come and play or watch on Wednesdays at the Haven starting around 5:30 or 6.

hey
wed nights we usually get started by 6. some of us come a little earlier to pair up and get started, but there are many who work have school, or whatever and dont get there til about 6. but show up anytime between 5-6 if you can to get paired up. we always have pick up games where we team up an experienced player (mentor) with a newer player. or sometime we pair up two newer players to play smaller games to learn the rules. whatever works best for you is what we can do. the off-campaign night is pretty open. campaign nights are every other wed (this coming wed is the next day of moves, and we execute the orders at 6pm). that takes about 30 min, and then we see who has campaign battles and who is free for pick up games.

as for chaos. they can be difficult to learn with because they are very expensive per model. just means that you learn a little different tactics. and the dont have shooting of course. but they do have decent magic, and you have the option of going wiht marks whcih can also change the way they play. i learned WFB by playing them, and i was brand new to GW games at that point. so i played quite a few games before i got good at them because they are a little harder to play well. but they are in my mind a decent army to learn to play with. and they are great for painting and converting, and they have a lot of flexibility as your army grows because you can add in demons or beastmen to them.
do you have some figures already? if you know you will be there this coming wed night, we can make sure someone else is playing chaos mortals (like me) and we can set up an opponent ahead of time to do a tuturial game. just let me know if you would be interested in that

I would be quite intrested in that Jeff, i have the army book, i'm looking at buying some later today, or tommorow. However i don't have the main WHFB rulebook yet.

You dont need the rules to play with us because if we know that you are new to the game then we usually teach as you go along and thats how i learned the rules before even going in and getting the rule book myself

so are you thinking of chaos mortals, demons, or beastmen as the core to your army? just want to know which i should bring wed night. ive also got several players lined up for some tutorial banners. if you get some figures together before then, bring them along so you can start playing with what i you got and ill fill in the rest.
like mike said, we can go over the basic rules as we play through a game or two, and then you can decide if you need to buy the rule book or not. if you want to, i hihgly recommend buying the skull pass rulebook so you get the little rulebook, and then you have some dwarves and gobbos that you can use later or trade away for other stuff or use to put as dead things on bases of the mighty chaos horde...
see you wed

Cool beans, that was probably a good choice for the money. the skull pass set is actually a great deal! even if you dont think you will ever play gobbos or dwarves, it is nice to have the figures to play small games or allies or if you are sure you wont use them then you can trade them away or use them to make terrain or bases or whatever. lots of good uses for the money. and the rulebook is what you need anyhow.
so ill put together a 2000pt list then for wed night, and we can pair up against some other players for a good tutorial game.

anyone else out there want in on a tutorial game wed night? we can make another big table if we get enough people or team up several players if you have less than 2000pts but want in

hey
just come into the back and ask for jeff, most everyone will know who to point to. at that point we might still be doing the orders for the campaign moves, so look for a big group of people standing over a map. we usually do that in the back left corner of of the play area.
see you then
