Meh, I thought I'd do this to promote my upcoming April league, and at the same time, share some of the my "not-so-awesome, but useful" techniques.
I will cover: the brush selection, brush cleaning, drybrush, ink wash, "glaze" blending, and dramatic highlight techniques. I will also demo the "dip" technique and my patented "oops-I made-a-mistake-and-need-to-fix-it" technique. It shouldn't last too long, and if anyone has any questions about the upcoming league, I'll be happy to field questions there.
I'll be doin' this on Thursday 15th of March, 6:00 pm.

Is there an online correspondence class I can take? :D

Actually walter, that gives me a good idea I'll test this Thursday. I'll take pics of each mini technique I employ. Then I'll post 'em here with some explanations. Thanks for the idea, Walt!

I say Tim set's up a webcam in the store :)
Hey--I'm not going to be able to be there for any length of time Thurs. I have to do laundry and stuff. Feed the panthers. But--they're trying to get me to play Cadwallon and I need to brush up (get it? That's a painting joke--brush up) on my painting till I have mad phat Rackham painting skillz. Are you thinking about doing a class more weekendy? I would love to swipe tips from an artiste.

I'm always down to help and give advice, not to mention there are a dozen or so other badace painters that troll this forum. If you can't make it tomorrow, I wouldn't sweat it. Once everyone starts using these forums (people are still intransition i bet) and that Mentor Legion kicks up, I'd expect this to be a more regular thing.
Also, I'll prolly be hosting an advanced class in the future of course. :)
remember, I'll be posting a thread of the stuff I will cover tomorrow... so that might help slightly.
I need motivation to finish painting my wolves, so this will help. Thanks!

Ill be bringing Lucas, my 9-year old. he wants to learn some better painting for his lord of the rings figures, and it would be great for him to hear some advice from someone other than me, so we are looking forward to it. see you in a couple hours
I appreciate the support. I've definately picked up some excellent tips and advice at the shop in the past. But some of us are . . . well--difficult students.
At any rate, I'm in for a penny and a pound, so you'll see me around, probably with an exasperated look on my face and minotaur pieces glued to my ears.

Painting class went fairly well. In the future I want to bring pre-painted minis and start earlier (kinda like a cooking show--only show certain techniques "live"). I already want to cover more techniques after the questions I had. Anyone interested in one next month? If so, what topics do you want to see?

That's odd, my reply disappeared....
Anyway, I am definately interested, and I might know a couple more interested people as well. As far as topics go, I would like to see a vehicle technique, and some tips on weather effects like mud, dust, and chipped armor. Also some work on painting lighting on models would help. Maybe some advanced use of what we learned last time, too. Of course I think it comes down to whatever you want to teach, though : )

I wouldn't mind attending a session. I really just started paining miniatures so any teaching of my poor uneducated mind would prob help a lot.

that's certainly do-able. I just wanted to hit some of the basic techniques first. THAT way if anyone asks... hey I dunno how to drybrush even... I can come back with "oh did you attend my last class?" and maybe get more attendance :)
so for potential topics:
weathering mud
weathering dust
weathering chipped (my personal fav of the three)
lighting effects? (not sure I understood this one)
glaze blending re-hash
"Tim's steady" miniature holding techniques (needed for some advanced techniques)
anything else?

Lighting effects: Say there is fire or another light source with the model, how you paint the model to reflect the light shining on it. Stuff like that. There might be a better name for it, I don't know. Like if I wanted to make a green glow shine on some Necrons from thier guns, or give the impression that a magic user's eyes are glowing, or firelight shining on someone from a torch they are holding.
I figure it might just be a blending thing, but you wanted requests, so there ya go! : )

yeah that should be fine. I only think I'm gonna cover maybe 3 techniques next class. THAT way i can show more examples and actually have peeps try the techniques. anyone have any preference on which 3?
i'm shooting for sometime during the second half of next month.

Weathering chipped, and the glaze blending re-hash would be nice. Let someone else pick some, too, though...

i like the idea of glaze re-hash. i didn't have enought time to properly show that one last time... :)

So when are we doing this next, anyway?

if there is enough interest, I'd like to run it on the 9th of June. well... that, and if there's nothing crazy goin' on that day. I'm sure if there's something going on, they could save me one table to go over some painting techniques. As a matter of fact, I'll open up a new thread to solicit any potential interest :)
