Not everyone has used a portal page before and I just wanted to shed some light on it.
The portal page is the main entry into the website. From this one page you can pretty much catch up on every thing that is going on at the store and on the forums. Lets have a walk around what you will find on the portal page, shall we?
Left hand column modules
1. User Module; This module allows you to directly access your User Control Panel, your PMs as well as informing you of how much PM space you have left. You can logout from here and see if there are any new posts to the forum since your last visit. By clicking on your Avatar, you can edit its options directly as well.
2.Buddy List: This is a quick list of all the people that you have added to your buddy list that are currently online. To add someone to your buddy list, simply open their User profile and click on the Add to Buddy List link (right above the Forum Info box)
3. Current Poll: This module will display and allow you to vote on Polls that the Haven Staff have posted. These Polls will only be used by the Staff to get your feedback on important issues.
Center Column
1. News & Announcements: This is the section of the portal that the Haven Staff will use to keep you up to date on the latest and greatest in the gaming industry. No need to go digging through the World Wide Wed to get the last info on your favorite game...we have it right here on your main page!
2. Recent Threads: If you are in a hurry and just want to see at a glance what has been happening on the forums, this is where you should look. It'll show you the most recent 10 threads.
Right Column
1. Upcoming Events: This handy little module lets you see what events will be happening at the store for the next 10 days. See an event that looks interesting? Just click on the event name and it'll take you to all the details for that event.
2. Calendar: This is just a nice little calendar to help you determine what days events fall on at a glance. If you look at the top center of the page, you will see a calendar button. That button will open up the main interactive calendar will all kinds of good info on it. Why not have a look?
3. Birthdays: Never miss a buddies birthday again!
4. Stats: This module keeps you up to date on the forum stats. Keep an eye on who the top poster is, how fast the board is growing and who the newest member is...don't forget to say Hi to them in the Introduction forum!
That's it for the portal page. As you can see, it's a great way to keep on top of things and an easy place to get all the latest info. Keep your eyes open in the future for more helpful modules to be add there.
