Heya Rich,

Ryan here. This would be an EXCELLENT time to learn. The newest rule set has just been released. But there's no need to re-purchase any models. Whatever you still have is what's still in use today.

So if you want to set up some Thursday night (warmachine night usually) or if some other night works better....let me know! There's a LOT of new stuff and options since we did this last and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how versatile it's become.

Works for me! I'm usually down at the store around 6pm ish these days...so I'll look for you then. There's a league that's in full swing right now too, so there's lots of players to meet and greet if you so desire as well.

I'm also interested in learning how to play but, I need to purchase the rulebook and also learn more about the various factions before I jump in.

Respectfully,
KEVIN

P.S. Right now, I'm leaning more towards Cygnar or Khador based solely on the appearance of the minis and feedback I've recevied that these are two of the least played factions in the store.

Mods to the basic models to make them look "different" are okay. The only time this really is a big issue is whether you want to play in a tourney or organized "event" of some sort (such as the current league)

Then, what can't happen are weapon swaps to have them holding different weapons than what basic type of weapon they already have or to have some entirely other model representing the actual "thing" you want. So a modified Cygnar Jack can't stand in for a Khador jack, or a modified Deneghra model can't be used as a Haley model in that capacity.

Otherwise, if you're just trying to mod it to make it look "cooler" then by all means have a ball.

Kevin,

Would you like to attend on Thursday and join us? The rule book is not necessary to get an exposure to the game and appreciation for how it works. Plus it lets two "noobs" feed off of each other a bit and learn from each other's mistakes if we put you together with someone teaching both at the same time.

Invitation is extended.

Sweeeeet ... I was thinking just make the legs a bit more beefy ... and just like 1/4 inch taller but keep the body on all the jacks the same. And keep all the weapons and arms the same...... maby change the heads to a different style. I presume that the head if it has a weapon ... like a horn or a cannon sticking outa it it needs to show the horn or the gun or whateaver the data card says it should have. Mostly just the hips and legs me thinks are a bit undersized for my taste.

Another question is along the lines of warcasters ... can u make a custom one? Like as long as they have representations for all the weapons the datacard says? It might be very cool to be able to customize the warcaster as it is sorta your persona projected on the battlefield....... just a thought. :L)

Ummm...I don't follow.

The warcasters are pretty much the lynchpin to the game system. As such they are the proverbial King and Queen of the chess match combined. Creating a custom Warcaster model to be represented by the rules given for a specific warcaster would be "sorta okay" but also viewed as kinda "weird" by a crowd at large. You sort of have to consider that the Warcasters are the named "superheroes" in this game and everyone else is just joe blow trooper guy. (again unless they are some sort of unique character...Eiryss in the Merc section of the book for example or one of the character solos recently released in Warmachine: Superiority) So if what you mean is..."I like Superman over here, but I want to use Superman's stats, but I want to draw a diferent hero and call him Frank the Stupendous and Frank happens to have all the powers of superman and all the weaknesses of Superman" then that would be weird. Basically your opponent is going to say something like: "ummm Okay...so you're using Stryker as your warcaster? or what?"

It's not a direct answer, but does it do the job?

On the other hand if you're just saying -

"I like this guy Stryker - he's a cool warcaster but his model is sorta "blah" and would like him to look COOLER than that."

and then proceed to manufacture a fairly obvious new model for Stryker complete with spiky hair, goggles and bad ass sword/gun, then...go for it.

As long as the basis for the model is an actual Warmachine model it should be legal in any sort of official capacity as well.

I know...it's a fine distinction...but hopefully you get my drift.

Yep I definately understand ... I was actualy thinkin of using another model for the chosen warcaster ... like using a marneous calgar figure from 40k for stryker ... like that .. using stryker's stats .. just a different model. And I was thinkin of fabing a sword like strykers and then he would have to carry a gun like stryker has .... but if the rules say they must be warmachine .. or at least start as warmachine models then thats cool as well .... just thought it might add a personal touch .... you know to stand out.

My thinking was as long as the char has the same stat card just change the name and the model has all the same stuff then it wouldnt actualy effect the game . I definately see that someone used to playing would be confused at the model being different tho. :L)

With 2 versions (regular and epic) of many original casters floating around, there's often plenty confusion as it is. Which is one reason PP is big about using the base model for any conversions. As always, you can do as you wish for friendly games. But for League and Tourney, it has to be recognizably who it is.
Also, I think they hold that rule for any observers not to get confused either.

So they're not so big on the "counts as". Normally, I'm a fan of creative Counts As (like using Squats as Deathwing on 40K). But here, the story is more personal, so sticking to the personalities matter, along with have 10x as many abilities to recall for each model.

Another thing to consider with conversions is Line of SIght (LOS). On Warjacks in particular LOS is to the model, and on all others it is to the base. At least that is what I have read in Remix (there are other caviats, but you will pick those up along the way). Welcome to the group.

Come check it out, we have a lot of players in EVERY experience catagory. I have watched more games then I have actually played, and that has helped me out imensely.

Also, this may be my odd logic, but the next league season starts in 3 weeks. This is the perfect opportunity to get in A TON of games in a relatively short ammount of time. This can take you from noob to vet in no time.

Tom - you're a little off, but it's obvious you're going for brevity a bit there. ALL line of sight rules are based on either the base or the model. The only difference is that warjack weapons are considered part of the model where trooper weapons are not. Figured I'd clarify. :)

Clarify here too...the next league season won't start until 3 weeks after this one ends. We're still 3 weeks away from this one ending.;)

Rich, had a great time last night.

My suggestions for you for the future:

1. Sorcha is great to learn with. I'll talk to my friend today and see if he still has an extra for you.

2. Join us any time. Thursday nights are warmachine nights. The more you play the smoother it will get.

3. Important part right now is the stuff Prime:Remix. Concentrate on that stuff at first. It will give you a solid foundation for others...and remember you don't have to buy the book for the rules on your models...they always come with the stat cards. But if you ever want to know about something, feel free to ask.

Ryan,

Does the next one start three weeks after this one or six weeks after? I have heard both now.

I dunno. Haven't heard much on that front.

Okay I did the math here and here's what I come up with.

There are 52 weeks in the year. This year's league didn't start until February 18. So we'er at a 7 week deficit.

52-7=45

We know that the league seasons run 6 weeks and there are 4 of them. So that's 24 weeks of league play.

45-24=21.

Assuming there are 3 breaks between the four seasons up to the end of the year and they are evenly spaced....

21/3 = 7.

That means 7 week breaks between each season. With a possibility of say saving a week or two for the usual Holidays come winter season....it could be 6 weeks I suppose.

That's my best educated guess and the rationale behind it.
