Someone posed this question to me last week.

If I buy a Phoenix Lord (we'll just pick one) let's say Asurmen and I attatch him to a unit of Harlequins do the Harlequins benefit from the defend skill.

Of course the first words out of my mouth were of course not, but I'm having a hard time defending it.

Under the phoenix lords it specifically states that a Phoenix Lord when leading a squad of his aspect makes the unit fearless. The next sentance states that a Phoenix Lord cannot join aspect squads that are not of his aspect. So as far as I can tell a phonex lord can join harlequins, wraithguard, and guardians.

Now flipping to the section of the book that talks about aspect powers it very weirdly says something about an exarch has to be in a squad to use the power or something weird like that. I think that statement was the one that was supposed to make it so that Phoenix lords could not confer aspect powers onto their troops. However, nowhere in the rules (that I could find) does it say that a Phoenix Lord is an exarch. We know that he is one because of the fluff.

So, can one of you help me out so I can point them out to this person?

Yeah, I went through my codex and can't really find anything to prevent it. the problem is that the Disciple rule is really very vague and is ripe for a FAQ.

I can hardly wait to see someone take Baharroth and 'Sky Leap' 10 harlequins.

I think I have it figured out. Spent some time with the Eldar book last night. Each of the Phoenix lords has an entry called Warrior Powers. Under this entry it states that they have x and x exarch powers.

If you look at the very front of the rules section for the Eldar it talks about Exarch powers and it says that Exarch powers only affect aspect warriors and Autarchs in the exarch's squad. So that should apply through so we don't get infiltrating Harlequins.

You could still get an Autarch in a bike squad benefiting from intercept if you had Baharroth join the squad. And I think you could sky leap him too.
