Gentlemen,
I'm looking at picking up some stuff and would like to get some input. What would you recommend as purchases for each list at say 2000-2500 points?
First, basic SM company.
...Troops
...Rhinos
...Predators
...Whirlwinds
...Land Speeders
Second, drop pods.
Third, ideas for Eldar.
Thanks,
Ray

I would look at a tactical squad, a unit or two of devestators in thunderhawks or drop pods, a unit or two of terminators, landspeeders, and a unit of whirlwinds. command units in most of the units minus the whirlwinds. maybe add a warhound or two or some bikes to finish off the points. I like having at least one or two units with good speed to get across the board for objectives.

Hmm, Yer out of luck with the Eldar :). I don't think I've even seen them played in Epic yet.
Drop Pod/Thunderhawk combo is nasty but I heard that they were going to change it somehow?
Don't forget to work in some anti-air(can't remember if whirlwinds had aa). Termies are good land raiders suck. Tactical squads devastator squads assault squads all good. The vindicator can be a nice addition to get a macro weapon in your basic squads.

I've used the Eldar, a while back.
Don't bother with Vampires, etc - too expensive
Warp gates are Okay
Wave Serpents are great
Dire Avengers and Howling Banshees rock
Warp Spiders aren't bad, nor are Jetbikes too shabby.
War Walkers are kinda required for scouting and taking objectives, etc
The Doomweavers rock, as do Scorpion Tanks (if a bit expensive)
All their Titans are SOLID.
While the Avatar can win Assaults hands down, he requires bringing Guardians and A Seer Council, and I've rarely made those points work for me.
That's all i can recall for now.

Ok...any basic marine list ideas? I'm trying to figure out what needs to be purchased.

I've been trying very hard to avoid the pull of yet another game, but painting an epic army looks amazingly fast. Dale -- can you get any more in-depth about the eldar? They're my chosen, so any further information you can give me will likely swing me closer to providing more of Troy's salary.

The eldar rock! They are just like the fluff. They are fast, hit hard but fragile. They have some really solid choices in super heavy tanks, titans, falcon units, fire prism AA, bikes, and good solid choices in the infantry. The avatar is a great bonus for one turn. A very fun army to play.
On the marine lists ideas: are you asking for ideas or a list?

I was looking at the eldar starter box and it has a huge spread of all the aspect types. Can a more specialized army do well like in 40K, or do you honestly need a little of everything to be successful?

my armies tend to have a little of everything. I have super heavies, titans, bikes, guardians, aspect. going too specialized can leave you weak in some areas plus it is nice to be able to play all the cool stuff in the list. I find I change up almost every time I play just to try new combos.

Talk to me on Thursday...I'd have to look at the Swordwind book to remember stuff...

Yeah, the Stormwind book will tell you all you need to know for the Eldar in Epic Armadgeddon.

Ray do you want to do a pod list or a rhino list or a mix? That's probably the first question to ask. From there we can give you some starter lists to look at.

Can Drop Pods be shot down by Air cover? I can't remember...
I do recall that a Vampire or Thunderhawk list, while able to target the battle decision point very effectively, really suffered unless a LOT of points were devoted to effective air cover...
