As the first commenter points out, barring FTL, the article might have a point.

FTL may be a Magic Wand by today's science. But so were Electric lights less than 2 centuries ago.

I read this article. He makes a pretty convincing case for why a lot of our preconceptions of space colonization won't come to pass. Most likely the ones to colonize the stars will be robots, nanites, and test tube babies.
