This isn't really a review of the game. It's been reviewed to death, all over the interweb. It's a sensational pulp game with a couple interesting mechanics that make it conducive to fast, involved roleplaying.
Characters in the default campaign are members of the Century Club, an organization of eclectic crimefighters and do-gooders who were all born on 1/1/1901. This auspicious birthday gives them mildly heroic abilities beyond the ken of normal men. During character generation, the PCs determine the various pulp novels they have appeared in during their careers, and how they have guest-starred in others' novels. Thus, you begin play with an interrelated group of heroic characters who already know each other.
When you meet for a session--with whomever can show up--adventure ensues. The adventure ends that evening, with a different mission next time the group assembles--in whatever combination or permutation in which they show up. It's not so much about campaigning or character development--it's set up to be a fun, quick pick-up game for a big group of people with busy schedules. Since we have a big group of people with busy schedules, I think this would be a perfect game to try out at the shop.
It's huge big fun, and I wuld like to begin assembling a pool of characters. For the next couple weeks, if you would like to generate a character for the game, let me know. I am going to run some Star Wars sessions, but in between those, or after my rotation of GMing, I'd definately like to run some SotC. If we could set up a player list, then anyone who wants to run a session could set up a time, call everyone, and play the adventure among those who can make it. EZ.
Maybe after we make them, we can type each of the characters into a post on this thread. That'd be cool. I'll bring the book with me tonight, and I know Rob has more coming in. Centurions Assemble!
