Hello everyone,

New to Colorado, i am also looking for a place to get involved with Warhammer 40K and try out something else as well. I am new to table games but have always had an interest in learning how to play. So I guess i am looking for a group of individuals who are willing to take a new person and help show the ropes to.

At the moment I am trying to figure out what Army to start out with, I am more of a stand at a distance and pick off enemy rather than in your face fighting. So if anyone has any ideas, I am currently researching, however i am currently out of the country and wont be back for a month or so. So i cant come down yet, just trying to get some knowledge before hitting the ground running.

Thanks, cant wait to come by and visit the store and meet some folks.

First of all, Welcome to the Colorado. I remember when I first started out and I was very glad when people gave me input. My suggestion would be to start with Space Marines. They have the best armor save in the game and they can be very forgiving when you make a mistake. There are lots of options to pick in their codex. They are alot of fun. My first army was Space Marines. You could also pick up the Assault of Black Reach box. It has everything in it to play a game. All you well need is glue and side cuts and a exato knife to put the models together. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. However I have been around the game as far as collecting units and painting them. I have just never played the game believe it or not. I have never been a fan of Space Marines for some reason, maybe they are just the Army everyone uses to learn and stuff. I haveheard they are very forgiving in their style of play, I think I am going to lean against playing the Imperial Guard.

I have heard they are great at long range, someone can confirm or deny this?

Thanks

Depends on your play style. Space wolves Space Marines are IMO the best at long range firepower and survivability. Of course everyone plays Space Wolves now as they are the top codex in 40K. IG are very popular as well due to the huge alpha strike power but are very fragile up close. Dark eldar are mobile, have decent long range firepower and can cut down on the range of their opponents, but still fragile. Grey Knights have some good long range with awesome mid-range fire.

I would suggest visiting the haven to see which army you like the look of and what you would like to paint.
