"Galactica" Last Season OfficialBy Garth FranklinFriday May 11th 2007 12:14am It doesn't come as a surprise, but still it's disappointing to hear that the upcoming fourth season "Battlestar Galactica" will definitely be the last.
Stars Edward James Olmos and Katee Sackhoff told The IESB at the Saturn Awards Thursday night that the SciFi Channel will officially pull the plug on the show following its fourth season, which begins in January.
Olmos says "This will probably be the most extraordinary season of 'Battlestar'. It's the final season, so it's definitely going to be the most vicious. As far as we know, in respects of the way we have this show constructed, this is the final season."
Sackhoff says "I think part of the problem is that it's an expensive show. It is [a great show], but we don't have the viewership that a great show should get."

The last few RDM podcasts alluded to this too, from just a plot standpoint. Thematically, they're into the Final Act of three now. To wrap the show with a proper arc, nows the time to do it.
None of this precludes a spin-off, of course. I feel more bad for the actors - they lose a good gig, especially the young ones. I mean, how many of the Buffy/Angel/Firefly/B5/Enterpirse/DS9/etc casts have had good solid employment since the shows wrapped? One can only hope RDM's next project may include a few from the current cast.
As the internet and new tech forces changes to the way TV is watched, rated, and advertised on, I'm hoping BSG becomes more the norm than the exception.

I can respect that if they are finishing the story, and not canceling due to ratings.
And I agree I wish more shows would understand the concept that a good story must have a beginning a middle and an end!

Four Seasons is about right. B5 really wrapped at Season 4 for instance. And if you take out the average 1-2 seasons it took a Trek show to gel right, you'll find that 4 seasons out from that, they did their best work. Ditto for West Wing, iirc.
Many shows keep going long after they've finshed, in a perpetual Been There Done That limbo of bad writing.

COUGH
Josh Whedon
COUGH!!!
I shudder to think how stupid Firefly would have been in Season 5... as they smuggled cows, or Jayne Betrayed them and Mal thought about killin him real good like... For the 3rd, or 4th time...

I'd prefer to see a proper ending myself rather than a desperate attempt to extend a finished story. I did read that they have the go ahead for 22 more episodes in season 4 and the execs said that they will find Earth before it is done. I can't remember where I read that, but it's out there in netland somewhere.
I also heard a rumor about a prequel series about the first Cylon war. Maybe we'll get to see ensign Adama. That would be sweet.

FRAK!
one of the 3 shows that i really make sure i catch each week is going to end? FRAK!
I had a feeling it was coming, but just damn it!
Ok how bout we get a list of what people want to see in the final season
1. More Toaster Killing
2. Less Dee
3. Papa Adama biting the bullet and Apollo stepping into Dads shoes
4. Apollo holding a rank for more then 2 episodes (that guy gets demoted/promoted faster then if he were in the army gez!)
5.More HotDog!!
and this is for complete randomness that would be cool but no way in gods green earth do i wanna see.....Patrick Stewart as the Final Cylon:D

It's always better for a show to end when you still like it rather then wish it would die rather then linger. Not that BSG couldn't get another good story arc out, but if the writers don't have some great ideas going I'll just feel like them trying to squeeze another buck from the fans. Gotta end some time.

I did find some mention of BSG: Razor which will fill in the time on New Caprica. Check it.

This is what i remember off the top of my head and i heard this a month or 2 ago so i dont know how correct it will be now
1. Pegasus will be back
2. Will be played on back to back nights then released to dvd the following day after the second part
3. Should be sometime in August or September
Thats the main things i remember....im not to sure on how correct they are now but it still is sounding good so far

So is BSG Razer going to be 4 season as well, or is BSG Razer part of the BSG 4 season?

Does make me wonder when that happens.
Razor is supposed to happen after the Caprica Attack... so unless they are flashing back to the First Cylon War for a while... doesn't really track that well.

There's a bunch of stuff with Young Bill Adama during the first Cylon War. Some VERY cool segments are viewable on Sci Fi.com
