Just got my GW newsletter this a.m. and it's all orky! Closeups of the Arachnarok Spider, plastic Savage Orcs and plastic Savage Orc Boar riders! Plus the "What's New" artical has the new HARDBACK O&G army book ($32.75 ...) and more new models.

I'm seriously hoping there's going to be some similar love for ALL the WFB armies...

Ya, but why a hardback book? that seems a little odd to me, just to jack the price up a little bit. does anyone's softcopy army books have truobles so they need hardbacks? cant wait to see all the options on that huge spider thingy. and wonder what other new cool things they have. it is enough to make me pull out my greenskins and see what else i need to paint up to get them tourney ready...

Hardbacks are just better. I know this from my Warmahordes books. :)
I'm guessing Rick will definitely want to play now. I can sense the onrush of Goblin armies. But yes - they need to give love like this to everyone!
What does it matter it seems everyone hates the new edition of rules, like Asandiril, so they wouldnt play with those awsome models anyway. I will keep playing with this new edition and when people get over it, epic battles like ye olde times will resume again.

The only disadvantage to a hard cover is that I usually have my rulebooks bound at Kinko's and Hardcovers, even if done correctly, can be expensive.

Seems someone doesn't want you dishonoring their tome by punching holes in it and making it convinient and useful :p I'll be waiting for the paperback edition.;)

Caleb, I've been playing since LOOONG before you were even alive (1987, to be exact). In that time I've seen all 8 editions of this game and all 5 of 40K (plus a host of other great GW games that fell to the wayside). It's not that I hate the rules, per se, it's that I dislike the culture of tournament-play that has built up over the last 4 editions of either game. GW games used to be comparable to most of the historical games, used to have a semi-serious following. GW didn't have an eye towards the bottom line (ask others - they've invested in games that tanked but continued to support them, or popped of tons of one-off licensing endeavors that fizzled, all in the name of playing). Pick-up games are no longer fun comraderie between two players at the store, it's testbeds for the "next tournament" list.
My issue with the rules set is that where before we were slowly coming back around to a more steamlined, less clunky, set of of core rules with clearly defined actions/instructions, we now have multiple cases of "do A, then B, unless K applies then you must remember T-Z"... Just about everything has special rules pertaining to it now, from unit size to magic lores. Just more to memorize, more to argue about. THAT is my issue with the latest edition.
BUT - After looking over some more info about the O&G book, I'm actually of the mindset that GW *might* be refocusing on the hobby/comraderie side again. The book is $37, it's hardcovered, it's fully colored, it's FULL of fluff and 'Eavy Metal reference pics. Why does this matter? Because the majority of the tourney only players won't want to shell out $37 for EACH army book, while those dedicated to their army will. Most tourney players don't care about the fluff/backstory, so it's wasted space to them, while dedicated army builders use that info for new army concepts or to find a place for their army in the world. The only thing shared is the pics, since both tourney and dedicated players want to have a well-painted army, but one for the scores, the other for the tabletop battles.
IF this is the way that they are going, I'll more than likely revisit WFB sometime. Like when they release the Elf books (yes, all three... I have to do something with the three armies I have...).
Well then you need to play with us. I created my armies built around fluff and the models that looked cool, and we play in the tournaments only because its other people. But we dont try out our next tournament list, I would get destroyed with my warriors of khorne army because there were no wizards, but Im khorne they dont belong I eat them for breakfest. Im sorry to see that it has disapointed an old gamer like you. I meant no disrespect just saying if you dont like the new edition why were you getting excited about the new orcs and gobbo book that is for this edition.
