Ok, I just made up a space marine army list of 1500 points to my own liking. Now this list that i just made up, I dont have any models to "test play" with it and see if i like it or not. and i dont want to go out and but all these models and found out that i dont like that style of play.

Is there a way that i can play my list that i made up, with out buying the models first? or am i screwed?:(

Another question. when i was making up my list i could find anything in the rules or the codex that tells me that i HAVE to take a 2 troop squads. but i still included those in my list. is the a must have becides the HQ choice? cause my thinking is yes. i have to have a HQ, and 2 trooper squads and then the rest is optional or personal preferance.

Also is there a limit on how many elites, fast attack, and heavy support?
can you take like 2 elites, 5 fast attack squads, and say 2 heavies? is that legal? or is there something im missing in the rule book?

thanks again:)

Jeremy:

If you refer to the section in the rulebook that covers the scenarios it details the requirements for at least one HQ and two troops with the maximum requirements for other unit types for standard battles. This is pretty much the norm. Other scenarios have slightly different requirements based on the type of scenario played.

There is also a standard Force Organisation chart. (for most Scenarios, and events such as tournies.) Your minimum is 1 HQ, and 2 troop choices, then from there you can take one more HQ choice(total 2), and 4 more troop choices(total 6) Then up to 3 fast attack, 3 heavy support, and 3 Elites.

And I have some space marines laying around that I haven't got around to selling yet/re-doing for my Dark Angels, if you shoot me your list I can see which models I have that I can let you borrow for a while. off the top of my head, I've got about 22-ish space marines, 4 bikes, 2 speeders, some termies, a rhino, a space marine captain in termie armor, and maybe some Jumpers.

Also, depending on your opponent, you can use proxy figs to represent other minis.
Most people don't have much heartburn with it especially when they know you ae new to the hobby.

Also, if you tell me what minis you need I can let you borrow my space marines until you get your own.

will shoot. i totally passed that section of the rulebook. lol i saw the picture and thought that it was just opitional with it since im thinking that most games are just set up, roll and kill. but my thinking is flawed.

anyway, i thank you for your kindness in leading your minis Kevin, but i have a slight problem, my list is illegal. i had 2 HQs(commander and command squad), 2 trooper squads, a transport, 3 fast attack, and 5 heavies. so ...yeah, i need to rethink my thought process and think of something else.

im sorry that im new and asking alot of questions and tieing up the posts, but i just want to be legal and learn, and to PLAY!!! YAY!! hehe, but anyway, looks like i need to read the rule book ......again...sigh.

thanks for your guys' help,

Jeremy:

The commander and command squad only count as one HQ selection if you puchased them to accompany the commander. There is a section at the bottom of Commander army listing that says that your commander/leader may be accompanied by a command squad adn only count as one HQ choice in the force organization chart.

Otherwise, the only thing you have to worry about are the 5 Heavy Support choices. The most you are allowed to have in one army/force organization chart is usually 3.

If you'd like, you can PM me your army list and I can help you make sense out of some of it or bring your books with you this Sunday and I can go over army selections with you and we can formulate a couple of army list options for you.

Also, the 40K game I play against Adam may help you make a few decisions on what you want in your army.

If you wanna play a game but dun have any models, use empty bases, i've done that. It works fine.
