After I finish getting my undead-Nurlgite army together, I and my wife are going to put together a themed army based on Cthulu Mythos.. I wanted to get some ideas from the community on what to use as a base...

1) Lost and the Damned
--- traitor imperials as cultists/nazi types
--- deep one chaos marines made from lizardmen/SM modelling
--- Mutants galore cause Cthulu is full of those kinds of critters
--- Big Ones using mutant converted ogres

2) Tyranids
--- this list gives me a ton of options for different monster types and better Old Ones

3) Tzeentch
--- psychic aspect (however I have a CSM army already) to fry you mind and
--- demons for ancient ones

Opinions and suggests welcome!!!!

Great idea!

You could browse FFG's CoC CCG (horay for acronyms!) for ideas
Some correlations:
1) Lost and the Damned => Shub Niggurath, Hastur
2) Tyranids => Cthulhu, Lots of Shoggoths, Also Shub-Niggurath
3) Tzeentch = > Yog-Sothoth, Nyarlathotep

One the specific Unit side for Tyranids:
Hive Tyrant = Spawn of Cthulhu
Tyrant Guard => Ancient Deep Ones
Tyranid Warriors => Elder Deep Ones
Winged Warriors = > Byakhee
Brood Lord => Dark Young
Genestealers => Ghouls
Gaunts of all varieties => Mi-Go variations
Gargoyles => Flying Polyps
Lictor => Slavering Gug
Ravener => Cthonian
Zoanthrope => Nightgaunt
Biovore=> Spitting Dhole
Carnifex => SHOGGOTH!

If you can find someone with a CCG collection, you could probably just sit down with the cards, pick a list, and start the analogies!

Actually, my wife has a ton of them, so will do.

I am torn, the LatD gives me more mutant - funky options while Tyranids gives me a different army base then my Nurgles.

It's a decision between using Cultists or not, in some ways, though you could always use Cult figures, and do "counts as" Gaunts.

Be aware, there's some concern that the rumored Chaos Codex Redux will make the LatD codex obsolete without updating it in the near term.

Also, while I LOVE the counts-as Armies in general, if the idea is well executed, there are other Judges (at least one in Denver) who will give a zero Comp or Appearance to something that doesn't fit EXACTLY into the 40K universe. Witness our loss of a great 40K player, who became disillusioned after he built a wonderful Khorne Beserker Army, using Chaos Warriors and LOTR Oliphants as "Rhinos". The Denver Judge gave him a zero *without* telling him. So he gets to the end of a big RTT all Undefeated, thinking he's probably going to win, and doesn't even place.
SO...if you spend all this conversion time, be aware it might just be good for local RTTs and "fun games".

Well I don't go to many big time RTT (none so far) so that's not a big worry. The codex change does worry me become I like a playable themed army, not just a showcase. The cultist are a neat idea, but their big benefit is special weapons and the ability to take an imperial vehicle which I am trying to steer away from vehicles. I think I may just go the nids route and maybe some mutantion sprues thrown in as well as a bunch of green-stuff.

For "counts as" is it possible to Horrors of Tzeentch and some gaunt arms attached and have them be legal gaunts?

This sounds like a great idea. I can't wait to see the results. Please keep us posted!

The storyline would be a "What happens when the geneseed is placed in those affected by the warp?"

Nice, sounds good. Cool fluff always makes an army even better!

I'm generally okay with things like that, as long as GW minis are involved and there's a consistent design/theme across all Gaunts.
