Rorschach
04-23-2007, 04:02 PM
Hi all, here's the formal event info:
What: Warhammer 40,000 Tournament, RT Style
When: May 26th, 11AM start til 7-ish
Where: Gamer's Haven
How: $10 Fee, Signups are actually full (iirc), Gift Certificate Prizes + Wall of Fame (soon to be updated!)
Who: Any army allowed for Grand Tournaments. 1850pts Specials Allowed.
We'll be using Adepticon-style Scenarios with three Tourney Point marks:
Primary Objective: 10pts
Secondary: 7pts
Tertiary: 3pts
With +2 pts bonus possible.
Paint Scoring will be standard.
Sportsmanship and Composition Scoring will arise from the usual Voting Cards, plus the following new Round Form:
Please fill out the following after each match. Each check will be worth 1 point, giving a potential of 14 extra points in each game. The questions are meant to be blunt and honestly answered.
My Opponent...
____ was reasonable in judging measurements, LOS, terrain, etc.
____ was polite, courteous, and friendly.
____ was generous in questionable situations.
____ came prepared to play, with rulebooks, dice, tape, templates, etc.
____ facilitated overcoming rules issues, or there were no rules issues.
____ allowed me to enjoy the game.
____ gave me such a fun game that I probably owe them a drink.
My Opponent’s army…
____ was fun to play against.
____ tried to do something different and interesting.
____ could reasonably exist in the 40K universe.
____ had units chosen or excluded for Theme reasons.
____ was well-balanced, and not a mere "one trick pony".
____ had Units I could easily distinguish from one another.
____ was completely finished, including a readable Army List.
----------------
The 4 Awards will be:
OVERALL = All Totaled
BEST GENERAL = Sports + Battle
BEST SPORTSMANSHIP
BEST APPEARANCE
I'll be doing random matchups, then Swiss style from there.
Please turn in lists by COB the Tuesday prior. There are no points docked for this though. The list review is a courtesy to YOU, as any mistakes found the day of the event will be corrected in direct and brutal manner.
All players should bring:
-- Fully Painted Army (as much as possible). NO PROXIES and WYSIWYG are enforced!
-- All templates, dice , tape measures, Codices, articles, FAQs, and rulebooks as necessary. If you can't show your opponent an obscure rule printed in White Dwarf, then you can't use it.
-- Copies of your list for 3 opponents and the Judge. These MUST be legible and show full points tallies.
-- A tray or similar to carry your force in between tables.
-- A good attitude, a gamer's aptitude, and an appetite for FUN!
Any questions?

Are the missions going to be posted ahead of time, as with the Air Force RT thing, or is it going to be as normal, and we find out when we show up?

I'll be reviewing them this week, and probably posting them. I'd like to make it a "surprise", but they're new enough that I'd rather be kind. :-)

hey one small critique. don't do the scoring the same as last time (just use the standard soring+new cool sports/comp scoring sheets). it was not that cool... i can elaborate, but i'm guessing you had some critique already. :)

I know that the event is already full. Do you guys take alternates? If so can you add me to the list. Just got most of my army out of the mail. Should have some touch up work to do and I will be ready. Thanks. JT

So you're saying you DON'T want the Adepticon Scenarios, with the 10/6/4 pt Objectives?
So far, I'd had feedback mostly in Favor of that.

actually, that's not what i'm sayin'... er.. necessarily.
i LOVE the adepticon style scenarios, but i didn't like the scoring. i'd hafta take a look at it again, but i remember playing a vallharmrmrrph RTT a while back and they used the adepti-scenarios, but straight up usual points for win loss tie (as per a 'normal' RTT). the way we played it, essentially you could not 'lose' but end up with less points than your opponent... kinda hard to explain maybe.
since i do indeed love the adepti-scenarios, maybe we could adjust the points values of the tactical bonuses or somethin'? one complaint i heard was "i didn't lose a round, but placed very low". as i see it, the only way an average player should be able to say that is if they took MAJOR hits on their soft scores... this was not the case.
and finally, for the record, you know i'm coo with anything you decide in the end. :)

BTW, if anyone wants to see the Adepticon Scenarios, they are
HERE (http://www.adepticon.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=22)
I think the scoring for the scenarios is kinda of integral to using them.
In the 1st, the primary (10pt) goal is a standard VP win. The Secondary Goal (6pts) is to have more Scoring Units in his Deployment Quarter than his in your own. That gives the old win VPs (15+) and is fairly straightforward.
The 2nd scenario, its table quarters (10pts) and VPs (6pts)
The Third Scenario goes by Objective Markers (10 pts) and VPs (6pts).
Add to that the Tertiary Goals (4pts each) and the TBPs (Tactical Bonus Points), and you've got higher potential Win Tourney Points than ever before (23 vs 18, iirc).
Now the Challenge is that where its not VPs, such as the Units in Deployment or Objectives, there's a good chance NEITHER side gets it. I think at the last RTT, people just weren't ready for the specific scenarios, and hadn't prepared their strategies or armies appropriately.
This time around, people should have a few good weeks here to prepare!
BTW, I'm planning (so far) to use the Championship Scenarios As Is. If there are genuine valid concerns, I can muck with the scoring, or mix in the Gladiator Scenarios. I think sticking with these now lets everyone get used to the new format, without too much wackiness.
The overall point being - Victory isn't just in killing the other guy a lot.

Just a warning to people. Only one out of those three scenario's allows infiltrators. Found that out the hard way :)

Restrictions are as for the GTs. To wit:

Perhaps I am reading it wrong, or looking at the worng ones or something, but in the paragraph for the secondary objective, it says to use the victory points rules with one exception:
"Each friendly scoring unit that leaves the table via your opponents long deployment zone table edge is worth 200 bonus victory points. Scoring units that leave the long table edge in this fashion have no further effect on the game (ie special powers are no longer available for use, Necron armies recalculate phase out point, etc)"
Rorschach
05-08-2007, 11:55 AM
Crap, yeah...I'm the one who should pay more attention. :-)
It does indeed profit you in VPs to exit by the opponent's table edge. Scenario 2 in general is the "get off your butt" scenario for any army.

John Teets,
I signed you up as the 3rd alternate. Bring your army following the requirements on May 26th and see if you get in. Sometimes people are not able to play and spots open up. Although wit this group who are already signed up, it might be tough.

Since FW doesn't even try to balance their stuff anymore, and few can afford the $75 books just to know the rules, no FW special rules stuff.
When they put out affordable paperbacks, get put back in the GW Studio system, and manufacture and distribute in the US, then maybe they'll be okay for Tourneys.

Did someone mention "pie plates"? There have not been true pie plates in 40K since GW dropped the launch 1-12 krak missiles from the terminator cyclone. Each missile added a 0.5" radius to the template. Launch all 12 at once and you get a 12" diameter(6" radius ) strength 8 ,-6 to armor save(that would be equivalent to AP2 to all except termies and invulnerables today!). Thats a "Pie Plate!

Dale:
How strictly enforced is the "fully painted army" rule?
I ended up picking up five shifts this week that will prevent me from even getting things started on my new Eldar army before the RTT... I'll be lucky if I can even get my minis undercoated!
All my minis will be WYSIWYG with no proxies.
Are the army lists still due tomorrow?
And is the background fluff still required? When is that due again?
Thanks!
Respectfully,
KEVIN

Fully Painted is a courtesy to your opponents, not an absolute requirement. It'll kill your overall score though.
For lists, I'll collect some tomorrow night/Thurs and review. That's a courtesy to me and a safety net for yourself, as incorrect lists discovered the day of the event will be summarily edited as I see fit, depending on circumstance.
No proxies IS fully enforced, so you should be okay there.
