Hey, I'm pretty new to the game; looking forward to getting started with a new army. Right now I'm putting together (theorizing, mostly, until the new rules actually come out) a Warriors of Chaos army; I want to field a Dragon Ogre Shaggoth, and it seems that since melee combat is now going to be based on Initiative, an extra hand weapon might be a bit more effective. Since I'm new, I'm not sure how accurate this is, but the Initiative value of 4 seems decent enough that, combined with its Strength, its valuable enough to not lose it. However, like I said, I'm quite new to the game; are there so many models in Warhammer that I could be crippling my army's effectiveness by NOT using a Great Weapon?

A Shaggoth is strong enough that extra hand weapons are fine against most things. Assuming he's going to be fighting troops. If you want him killing other monsters or characters, you'll want the extra +2 str from a great weapon.
For regular Dragon Ogres, same choice really.

Alright, cool; thanks! Also, regarding Shaggoths: in the current edition of Warhammer, did their Storm Rage rule come into effect very often? It seems like opponents would know about it, and do everything possible to avoid triggering it. Do you think it's worth taking a magic user with an applicable Lore so that I can be sure to trigger it myself, or look at it like it could just end being a nice bonus during the match?

Ive played the shaggoth alot, and never had that affect in game. and remember, you cant target you own units with damage spells (like lightning bolt) so you would be able to trigger it on your own. im assuming that will be the same in 8th edition, but not sure since i havent been trhough the entire new book yet

And don't forget the nice new loverly "Thunderstomp" rule for Monsters. D6 base Strength autohits that Always Strike Last are awesome!

Yeah I'm gonna have to agree, it all depends on what the role is for that character. If its a monster killer, or character killer, go for the great weapon, if its gonna kill troops, lend some extra kills, for the the extra weapon.
