All - there's a sign-up posted now for the first big 8th Ed Tournament on August 21st. I'll post the details soon here (left the darn doc at work).
Then we have Warhammer Ardboyz on Aug 28th
Then Tacticon the following weekend!
Is that enough 8th edition for ya?

Okay, below are some more details from the sign-up. But first some questions to answer/points to make:
1) You don't need to sign-up with one army in each category. We'll make teams somehow, even if it means Lawful Evil vs Chaotic Evil
2) If you're saying to yourself, I don't want to sign-up up until I know how my army "X" plays, you're missing the point. That's EXACTLY why you should play - to find out. If everyone waits around to figure out their "Tourney armies" before they'll show up and play, guess what? There won't BE any tourneys cause no one will play! Sometimes "Play Like you have a pair" just measn showing up! ;) :D

Now the details:
Warhammer 8th Edition Tournament

ORDER

Vs.

Destruction

Where: Gamer’s Haven, Colorado Springs, CO

When: Saturday, August 21st, 11AM til close

How Much?

$10 Entry Fee, COLLECTED AT SIGN-UP (!), to cover Prizes and Ice Cream

What Is it?

Players will be divided into two teams, one for Order (Team O), one for Destruction (Team D). Your Team Warlords will be Dale Kunz (O) and Dan Reifschneider (D). Each round, Team Warlords will alternate picking match-ups. The Team with the best record after 3 rounds is the Winner, and they all get Ice Cream. The Losing Team gets a lump of warpstone. MVP’s from each Team will become the Warlords for the next event! Other Prizes Include:

Best General (Battle Score Only) – Gift Certificate

Best Army (Theme + Painting) – Gift Certificate

Best Painted – Gift Certificate

Best Sportsman – Gift Certificate

Worst General – Random New Army Book (to start over)

Worst Painted – A Paintbrush (so they know what one looks like)

Worst Dice – New Dice

How does this work? Sign-up below by listing your name, email info, and which 2000pt armies as you would be willing to run, under each category. There will be a column for Order, Destruction, and Neutral forces. We appreciate those who might be available for more than one category, as they’ll enable a more flexible team building. By the end of July, we will Draft our Teams. Assignments will be posted on the forums, in the shop, and emailed out. The day of the event, there may be some tweaking.

Army Composition: 2000 pts per the 8th Edition Composition Rules. As this is a bit of a “Learn 8th Edition” event, Special Characters are not allowed. Again, having one of each type army is NOT required. But it is helpful.

Warlord Retinue: Each Warlord will have 500pts to represent themselves and their bodyguards. Each round, both warlords will join a randomly selected battle and work out their issues there.

Cool! A tournament thread with actual info posted! (Can ya feel the burn, Asandiril? Can ya?!?)

Will post an official signup a bit later. I want to see how much Empire I can get assembled, but failing that I can at least bring some Tomb Kings. They're Order, right?

Tomb Kings are currently Neutral, but that almost guarantees they'll fight for Order

It'd be awesome if you could be in town for it, Jeff!

Only 4 Sign-ups so far...Is everyone that terrified of 8th Edition? ;)

I dont think everyone is terrified of 8th Edition. I think people would rather pick their partners then have them assigned. Just my thought:)

Then they are confused. You're not playing with a partner. Your "teammates" are simply other people playing Order, or Chaos. The "team" mechanic is simply that the warlord picks the matches as he sees fit - maybe matching up his best general against the opponent's best player, or seeing a magic bullet matchup and taking advantage of it.

Games are still playd one-on-one from what I gather.

Oh, and I won't make it down til this weekend at earliest to sign up, but go ahead and put me down for Empire and TK, two armies which absolutely exemplify Order.

Mike is correct. You are misreading the format. This is more in the style of the ETC (Euro Team Championships) except we're just defining two teams to compete.

I read the rules at the store and I also misunderstood how the event was being ran. I thought as Wehrmacht did that it was a team tourney and our teammate was picked randomly from what ever force I was playing based off of good and evil. I think that when an event is posted use the K.I.S.S. method to keep it short and sweet to the point, so there is no room for miscommunication or misunderstanding. Just my two cents.

That would mean never trying anything new, because new requires explanations. Ain't gonna happen. :)
I try to at least be a better tech writer though than your industry standard. But I guess that's still not much. ;)

Sing-ups are now at 7 folks, with 2 more I know of likely.

Okay all, here's the sign-ups and teams as of this afternoon:

ORDER:
Ted Siewert - Dwarves
Mike Baswell - Empire
Mike Wellman - Dwarves
Ethan Ayers - Dwarves or High Elves
Connor Brown - Ogres

DESTRUCTION
Mike Tester - Beasts of Chaos
Mike Sango (sp?) - Warriors of Chaos
Jason Henderson - Warriors of Chaos
Ron Santoni - Warriors of Chaos
Bernie Santucci - Warriors of Chaos
Caleb Ayers - Warriors of Chaos

I know there's one more Order player whom I neglected to write down. We can go up to 7 players per team before we max tables that day.

So start your planning. I'll post more info when i have it.

So how did it go?

Rorschach
08-22-2010, 11:05 AM
8 no-shows out of 11, so no Tourney. We played pick-up games.
Mike's Beastmen played Ted's Bretonnians. Brets won.
Baz's Empire played Dan's Ogres - tie I think
And then Baz's Empire wiped out my High Elves.

Seriously? Holy cr@p, especially since it is such a cool idea for a tourney! Oh well, hopefully the make up date goes better, maybe i can attend that one....

Holy cow, i didnt catch it before, but 5 warriors of chaos players signed up...and no demons or vampires...that seems odd to me, but different spread of armies there than do south here i guess.

Dale/Dan,

Thanks for setting it up, even though it didn't pan out.
