Friday the 27th at 6:00 pm we will be holding a Character Battle!

Bring one tool out HQ model, NO MORE THAN ONE MODEL, so no command squads, body guards, ect. With a point total of 250 pt or less. Also nothing with an armor value so no Armor Company HQ Tanks. Please post any questions or comments.

I know it reads "only one model" but how about a Librarian's familiar? Would that extra model be ok?

Timbo
04-17-2007, 12:59 AM
Sorry, a familiar would count as a second model excluding it from this battle.

Special Characters Allowed? A Phoenix Lord might be fun...And how long do these usually run?

Timbo

Sure special characters can enter. I'm not sure how long it will run, I think that will be based on how many people show up. But if I'd have to guess around 8:00.

So onlya single model unite? There is some equipment my character can use that calls for extra models.

Timbo
04-19-2007, 02:50 AM
Yes, you are only allowed one model so if that limits war gear such as familiar or any thing else that counts as another model you can't use it sorry.

abaddon or the c'tan mighta been neat for this event... thanks for the 250 points limit, Timbo... yeesh... ;)

Yes spells making you extra models will not be allowed, the idea is to have one character in a big old pit fight. The person who kills the most characters will be the winner, if you happen to be the last man standing that will give you an extra point. The 250pt limit was picked to keep things fair for most armies hq's, special characters are allowed as a bonus but a "home made" character is the idea for this battle.

Thanks for all the interest Timbo

So how you gona balance it out, its obvious to say that a Space Marine Chaplen with Terminator Armour gots an advantage on a Imperial Colonel with his Carapace armour.

So it's like a Headhunter thing then. 1 kill = 1 point. And I assume that the only person who gets the credit will be the person who does the actual killing blow, not the person who knocks off 1-2 wounds and then chokes himself.

A couple questions then. First, are we going to stick to the Independent Character rules in close combat? Meaning that at most you can swing at/be swung at only those in base to base and wounds don't "carry over" to other models? So at most when you swing, you will only kill 1 model. Second, are we going to ignore the "can only shoot at indep char if it's the closest eligbile target"? Meaning if I want to shoot at Indep char Y who is behind X, I still can?

I like it. Kind of like Tanksgiving but with characters.

You got it! it is just like Tanksgiving but with characters. Yes, we will be using the independent character rule for close combat. and yes we will forget about the closest target rule, you can shoot who ever you'd like, but you'll need line of sight, and yes who ever does the killing blow gets the point for the kill.

Guns...Ok i understand how a plasma or melta would balance that out but it still seems off balanced. I figured there would of at least been a 3+ Armour Save limit or somthing.

What does armor value matter when everyone has a power weapon?

Timbo
04-21-2007, 02:15 AM
Balance is not really the point, if it was going to be balanced I would have said everyone bring the exactly same set up character. This is all about bringing the baddest dude you can think of under 250pts with a few other restrictions and have a good old fashion beat down.

Hmmmm...

Eldrad Ulthran, Farseer of Ulthwe would do very well in this battle!
3 wounds, can use 3 psychic powers per turn (any of which can be used more than once), 3+ invulnerable save, and a special singing spear that always wounds on 2+ and ignores armour saves... all for thr value price of 210 points!

Respectfully,
KEVIN

Let's see here. A Strength 6 power weapon with 3 attacks at Initiative 7, 3 wounds that cannot be insta-killed, and an Assault 5, Strength 6 gun with rending. Yeah, I should do okay.

I think he can only use TWO duplicate powers per turn, but yes, three total.

The whole Fortune giving a 3+ invul save rerollable is just sick. Almost as sick is Mind War.

Can't figure out off the top of my head who that could be (either a named char or just a pimped out HQ).

The Assault 5, Str 6 WITH rending throws me for a real loop.

If I had to take a guess I would say it's Maugan Ra.

If it is, is that still legal? He's from an old Eldar Codex that has been superceded by the new Codex Eldar.

If you would allow him, you'd have to allow all other chars from all other older Codices.

But if he's just from a WD thing, and if the organizer allows it, and he's 250 pts or less, guess there's no reason why you couldn't allow him.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to the smackdown.

I heard the 1st Round went to Taylor Klotz's Daemon Prince of Nurgle

The 2nd went to Maugan Ra, though I don't know if that was Matt Beale's MR or someone elses'. I had to miss it for my Friday RPG...

All the Phoenix lords are kinda buff now, especially ones that can keep distance and shoot nastily, and even without the Invulnerable saves.

DoomedToRepeatIt
04-30-2007, 03:55 PM
Yes, my wonderfully painted Maugan Ra took round two and had the high count for both rounds combined at six kills, five of which came from shooting. I have to admit, though, that Mike's Hive Tyrant had me sweating when it came down to blade vs. claw.

No, I didn't win, the first round went to Ben (don't know last name) with his Grandpa catachan in a wheel chair with a shotgun(or at least he was the last one standing, don't know kill-wise.)

Laplace

All I had to do was make ONE of the three 6+ invuln saves to win in round #2.

Oh well, was still good fun anyway. Thanks for running it Tim!
